Many thanks to all of you who participated in the Cover Poll for Follow His Lead. Just over 60% of you voted for the cover featuring the German shepherd looking up toward his master. Some may have noticed a tattoo on the dog's ear. More on that later.
Both covers were stunning, but many felt the dog alone, without his handler, was more striking. The publisher has agreed with you, so off we go on October 24th with a full launch. Meanwhile, there will be a few ARCs (Advance Reading Copies) circulating in August for industry book reviewers.
As the author, I was enamored with the runner-up cover, due to its direct relationship with a specific scene in the book. But for now, I don't want to give too much of that away. This work of historical fiction includes research on facts during the times of 1969 to early 1971. Though most names are fictitious, numerous events are real and in some cases, where news articles are quoted, they are based on facts and include names of famous individuals. One such example is the heroics of baseball great, Brooks Robinson, and some military legends known to those who served in Vietnam. Throughout the book are stories based on true experiences and I look forward to readers attempting to guess which are real and which are embellished.
For example, the tattoo on Zeke's ear, shown on the cover, is representative of those on our Vietnam military service dogs. It just so happens, April 23rd, was my mother's birthday.
